A ZZ plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia) with waxy, glossy leaves on upright stems. Tolerates low light and long dry spells better than almost any houseplant.
The ZZ plant stores water in thick underground rhizomes, so it can go weeks without a drink. Its shiny, dark green leaflets look polished all year, and it is perfectly happy under office lighting, which is why it is a favorite for workplaces, cafes and busy homes.
