Rubber Plant (Ficus Elastica)

The rubber plant is loved for its big, leathery leaves that shine like they have been polished. It grows steadily upward and can become a striking indoor tree, but it is easy to keep bushy and compact with an occasional trim. It brings instant drama to a bright living room or entryway.

Rubber Plant (Ficus Elastica) care at a glance

• Light: Bright, indirect light near a window. Too little light causes leggy growth and leaf drop.
• Water: Water when the top inch or two of soil are dry. Reduce watering in winter.
• Leaves: Wipe the leaves with a damp cloth every few weeks so they can take in light.
• Pruning: Cut back the top in spring to encourage side branches. Wear gloves, as the sap can irritate skin.
